Our tomorrows depend a great deal on our todays. And our todays depend on what we do with our mornings. The first thing we do on getting up in the morning shapes the entire day.
Every morning when you wake up, there is a choice before you: you can choose optimism, faith, positive thinking and a right attitude; or you can choose pessimism, defeat, negative thinking and despair. What would you choose? If you wish to have peace of mind, you must not take anything for granted. Therefore, remember to thank the Lord for everything—and thank Him every day, first thing in the morning. And the very first thing you should thank Him for is the gift of a new day.
Even as you try to focus your mind on God, you will find a hundred thoughts crowding in. Most of them are not really useful or constructive. Therefore, after you have expressed your gratitude to God, let your mind dwell for a minute or two on a great thought—a great saying, a line or a shloka from the scriptures.
If you do this at the dawn of a new day, you will find that your mind is repeatedly drawn to this text during the course of the day. This will make a great difference to the state of your mind.
Begin the day with God.
