Spirit of Coordination by Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

The spirit of coordination

"The presence of diversity in nature is not an evil. Where there is diversity, there is discussion and dialogue, which are beneficial for all parties involved." - Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

The Quran is a book of guidance. One of the principles of life has been stated in Chapter 92 of the Quran in these words: “Indeed, your efforts are diverse.” (92:4)

This means that according to the creation plan of God, there is no uniformity between people. Every person or group thinks along different lines. Along with this, everyone enjoys complete freedom in this world. On account of this nature of existence, it inevitably happens that various fields of human activity are formed.

Now the question is how to manage the diversity of human activities? If a particular group were given monopoly over something, then an unending war would begin in the world; there would no longer be peace, which is essential for all kinds of development.

Diversity exists in both religious and secular domains. In both fields, the workable formula is for people to live together with each other in the spirit of coordination; no one should confront with another but work peacefully.

There is only one solution to the problem, that is, the spirit of mutual coordination–to work and function together harmoniously. There is no other formula workable in this regard.

Diversity exists in both religious and secular domains. In both fields, the workable formula is for people to live together with each other in the spirit of coordination; no one should confront with another but work peacefully.

The presence of diversity in nature is not an evil. Where there is diversity, there is discussion and dialogue, which are beneficial for all parties involved. Discussion and dialogue lead to intellectual development, give rise to creative thinking and new aspects of the subject come to the fore.

The only condition to avail of this diversity is that people should take difference in a healthy manner. None should make difference an issue of confrontation. People should dispassionately interact with each other. Each should perform his or her task and at the same time provide support to others according to his or her capacity.

This is coordination, and the spirit of coordination is the only way for social development.
