Silvia sighed as she went about her daily routine in her cosy home by the beach in Mangalore. It was another lonesome day, made lighter by her two faithful companions, Bruno and Bella. She talked to them as she cleaned and cooked, often wishing for some company other than the sound of the waves and the occasional chirp of the birds outside.
Her thoughts, as always, drifted to her son, James, who was now serving as a pilot in the Air Force. They hadn’t seen each other in months and she missed him dearly. She longed for his presence, his laughter and the warmth of his hugs. But every time she asked him to visit, James would gently remind her of his duties, leaving her sadder.
As Easter morning dawned, Silvia couldn’t help but think about the joyous celebrations they used to have when James was younger. It was the duo’s favourite festival— they’d decorate eggs together, attend church services and enjoy a delicious feast with family and friends. It was a time of laughter and love that they eagerly awaited each year. But things had changed as the years had passed.
Lost in her thoughts, Silvia was startled by the sound of sudden, excited barking. She turned to see Bruno and Bella wagging their tails furiously, their noses pressed against the door. Curious, she went to the main door, opened it and gasped in disbelief.
There, standing on her doorstep, was her dear James, looking handsome in his uniform, a bright smile lighting up his face. Silvia’s heart was filled with joy as tears of happiness streamed down her cheeks.
“Happy Easter, Mom!” James exclaimed, holding her in a tight embrace. “I couldn’t bear to be away from you, not on Easter.”
Overwhelmed, Silvia clung to her son, feeling a surge of love wash over her. At that moment, surrounded by her beloved son and faithful companions, she knew that her Easter blessing had been truly granted.
